How to cut your own fruit letters with fondant cutters!

Our letter bowls are blowing up!

Every day, at least a couple of you ask us how we make the letters on our smoothie bowls. Some of you give us wayyyy too much credit, assuming that we cut them by hand! I’d be a surgeon if that were true.  🙂  If you know you want a set of fondant cutters, you can find them on Amazon. These prices are generally better than what we’ve seen them sell for in stores.

So what’s the secret?

No secret at all! We have the right tools. That’s it! We use fondant cutters. Fondant is that yucky stuff they lay on top of cakes. Maybe you don’t think it’s gross, but let’s at least agree that there are far tastier things to cover your cake with, right?!

It’s honestly so straightforward. We slice the fruit about about 3/4 cm thick and then cut! You can get a surprising amount of letters from a single dragonfruit slice, which is our fruit of choice. We do use mango, watermelon, honeydew, etc., but dragonfruit is the most attractive, especially in a high contrast situation.

Why fondant cutters?

They are smaller than cookie cutters! Most cookie cutter letters are quite a bit larger, making your letters look a bit overwhelming on a single serve smoothie bowl. So if you want to fit more letters in less space, fondant cutters are the way to go. You can see ours in the video posted to our Instagram feed. It’s an older set that I was given by my mom. Amazon has an identical set available for very little money! As is usually the case on Amazon.  🙂

Your support means a lot!

The links I’ve shared here are Amazon affiliate links. We’ll make a small 4% commission. Works out to about 52 cents on each sale. Not much, but I’m starting to explore the idea of monetizing the blog, without compromising our integrity or affecting the quality of the content that we post. I feel good about sharing these because we use them all the time and people have been about them every time we post an alphabet bowl!

If you’re not looking for letter cutters, but want to support us anyway, you can use this link when you shop on Amazon. Thanks so much!

No, I’m pretty sure these belonged to mom. I think that’s what she told me.
